Stairs and couches work too! What can I say...I have some really pent up fanfic ideas but no talent for creative writing. All I'm going to say about this is that I believe William and Julia will have a difficult time saving their money because of the high cost of replacing all that furniture.

What are you talking about? They used dovetail joints and screws (haha) to put that high-quality Canadian hardwood furniture together. That stuff can take anything. You didn't see Julia's desk collapse in "Bloodlust" did you? Hehehe.

Well lucky them. Get your mind out of the gutter snacky! Blame that perv William for putting my mind there with his indiscreetly "speculative" glances. But, yes, I need to turn my thoughts elsewhere. Maybe I should continue with the wedding shopping. Does your dress need any accessories? Are we missing anything for the reception? Do we need a cake?

Well, Julia has quite a lovely selection of earings and some nice necklaces. Something dainty and light. Wedding cakes were not the elaborate affairs they are now. Just some fruitcake with marzipan icing. I'm planning to re-watch the series so I'll keep on the lookout for appropriate jewelry and hair gewgaws.

From the summaries I read, I was unclear whether they would go home after the wedding or set off directly to their honeymoon? Or would they spend a transitional night in the "honeymoon suite" at the Queen's Hotel" or something. I've never been married, so I haven't a clue.

Back in those days, a la British tradition, the wedding was held late morning followed by a wedding 'breakfast' which really amounted to lunch. Honeymoon trips were the norm only for the wealthy and depending on their travel schedule, they may not leave town for days. A perfect opportunity for our happy couple to stay in their room at the Queen's Hotel and order room service XD!
I've been wondering though about how William is going to handle their financial imbalance. He is not a wealthy man and she is a wealthy woman. He was raised to provide for his wife and family but not at her level. There could be some angst there to play out.

I think the financial imbalance would be one of the least of their worries. Maybe Julia would be willing to give up some of her inherited wealth to balance things out a little, but I don't think William would be overly concerned about the source of their income. Unless of course the writers wanted him to be

Annie, I saw your last post then it disappeared. I didn't know snacky had a plotline thread but when I think about it, the only response is "well duh!" I haven't really gone back to look at past threads. So much more Murdoch to keep busy with this summer.

Julia will have no choice but to give up her wealth. The minute they are married it's his, by law. I just don't think William will be completely comfortable with it. But you are right that it will only be an issue if the writers want it to be.

She's a lot more wealthy since she inherited money from her marriage to Darcy as well. I'm sure that's going to be the source of some stress. But for now William just seems to be trying to help her grow more prosperous by advising her on how to sell Darcy's house, etc. William seems willing to spend some money on French restaurants and a nice suit with a top hat. I wonder if this is why he is so eager to suck up to the mayor? He wants a post to keep Julia in the style in which he wants her to continue to be accustomed? He doesn't want to "downgrade" her in society? Another question: will her property become his upon marriage?

I also can't see William EVER being comfortable with servants. He's used to having Mrs. Kitchen about, but he lives in her house. At the very least they will need a housekeeper/cook a)because they are both so busy and b) I don't have any sense that Julia knows much about the domestic arts.

Sorry, I deleted my earlier post, but meant to integrate it into my next one. Somehow that didn't happen though...darn, my memory! I am behind in their relationship status, but based on what I've seen from their personalities, it seems like they are both above squabbling over whose money is whose.

Yeah, I could see a housekeeper/cook to compensate for Julia's skills, but I highly doubt she would be a live-in, full time servant.
