I agree George should remain William's assistant, though I disagree either of their lives should remain static. That would make them cartoon characters. Plenty of officers stayed in uniform, I don't see what's wrong with George remaining a constable until he's promoted to Sergeant. He doesn't need to be a detective, we already one of those. And we also have Brackenreid. It's not staying static, it's being realistic. George is better in uniform than as a unnecessary 2nd detective. He was being transfered because their isn't room for him at Station house 4 unless he is a constable, and prehaps later a Sergeant. It was obvious that George aspired to being a detective. He got his wish but had to move to another SH. There had to be a way to keep him at SH4, this scenario was a good solution. He'll remain a constable for a very long time after this cover up is exposed and the case solved.

I wonder when the rank of Detective Sgt. was created? That could be a solution in the future....

I wonder when the rank of Detective Sgt. was created? That could be a solution in the future.... Where does that fall in the hierarchy? I agree though that it might fit the bill as a solution. We know George isn't leaving SH4 and it is possible that his current troubles will create a glass ceiling for him within the constabulary.

I honestly don't know.......it is logical, though, if one step up for a Constable is Sargent, Detective Sargent would be lower than a full detective......will have to look it up later today......

I'm really looking forward to seeing how TPTB resolve the issue. It's funny though because I'm so confident that they will get it right, unlike all the hand wringing and worrying over all the W/J scenarios.

When it comes to the storylines they get it right most if not all the time. Last season I think they concentrated on the storylines a little too much and forgot the main relationship. Whilst I was happy to see George find love and Emily be happy, even if I didn't like her partner, it was at the cost of W/J's relationship and that should have been front and centre as they'd just got married. Way too many new characters introduced last year and too much attention paid to them, hopefully this year they'll be back on track. The Artful Detective proved to me that they can still do it.

Seriously, William & Julia spent more time together when she was married to Darcy.. lol. They even had made a point at the 100th episode panel that romance doesn't die when you're married and you can do more as a couple during this time period after the fact... we've yet to see that I'm definitely hopeful for s9 though!

Peter Mitchell has acknowledged the fact that they may have missed the mark somewhat in S8 so now TPTB can get on with doing what they do best. I for one am very grateful that he has taken the time to have an open conversation with us about our concerns. I feel that I've been heard so now I can anticipate S9 with a happy heart.

PM admitted they'd made a mistake with the marriage. They could probably get some of the 'honeymoon' period back though by having them move into their own home.

It was a visceral shock not only that they got Jilliam wrong...but that they got it wrong on an ongoing basis.

Talk about blinkers!

Can't find when the rank of Detective Sgt. was introduced, however, since it is higher than Detective, it could solve 2 issues, of giving William a promotion as well......I'm sure George will have to wait some time for a promotion to Detective, as, even after he is exonerated (and he will be, I'm sure), he still fabricated evidence and wasn't forthcoming with the identification of the body. Notice there was no mention of where the body was found. Did George move it? Or was Brooks wounded and managed to stagger away from the tenement before expiring? They also didn't say if they had done a ballistics test on the gun.....no doubt they have, but are keeping that little nugget in hand.

I hope they cover details such as the ballistics and whether the blood was human next season.
