Seriously just write the darn thing already snacky if it's so important to your pervitude. I'm just too lazy. The best I can do is mini-fic scenarios where I write a paragraph about what might happen with a few lines. At the minute I'm on "what if Julia finds William's copy of Burton's Arabian Nights...". Hijinks ensue. But the pervitude factor for the zipper scenario is a lot higher! By the way, the zipper thing might make a good caption for your avatar. Ouch.

Here's some info regarding 2nd marriages in Edwardian times (albeit Britsh info) from a great site called Edwardian Promenade www.edwardianpromenade.comWidows marrying for a second (or third) time held noticeably simpler weddings. They were advised not to wear bridal veils, a wreath or orange blossoms, nor orange-blossoms on their gown, nor should they be attended by bridesmaids–though she could have pages should the wedding be a smart one. A widow could be given away by her father, uncle or brother, but it was optional after the first wedding, and many a quiet wedding did not feature the widow being “given away.” Formerly, widows married in gray or mauve, though it was later thought permissible for her to wear a cream or white dress, though some wore pale colors, with a matching hat or toque, and a bouquet comprised of mauve, pink, or violet flowers. Interestingly enough, the subject of a widow continuing to wear her first wedding ring was of importance, and etiquette advised the young widow to remove her first band, though she should not cease to wear it until she has arrived at the church. However, it was more usual for a formerly widowed bride to wear both rings for the remainder of her life.
This site also includes an article about Management of the Edwardian Husband. Right off the bat the author admits that management is not a good word in this case. Ya think?

Google "Nostalgia Tripping: Hanlon's Point Amusement Park". Some pretty cool pics. There's a roller coaster and the 'diving horses' that got a mention in one of the episodes. It's unclear what was there at William and Julia's time, though. =/ The diving horse is awesome! Hope he didn't come to a bad end. D: If you recall in S7 when Julia went to Darcy's house and found Lesley living there, he said he thought he'd stay in town for a while and mentioned the diving horse as something he'd like to see.

LOL, William probably has a few fantasies about being "managed" by Julia. XD Was reading a fashion mag in waiting room, and I stumbled across an article about a "funky" bridal shop in New York. The owner bases her philosophy on the three Graces: Grace Slick, Grace Jones, and Grace Kelly. How can you go wrong with that? www.stonefoxbride.com/Anyway, it looked vintage, so I thought some inspiration might come from there.

Hello, vintage silver shoes. A more conservative and likely choice of shoe: zipperrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr~ Darn I don't think the pics carry forward on the shoes. Was just going to point out that I made a good call on the shoes. If only someone had been thinking "willowy" for the rest of the dress. I just realized Ruby probably won't be around this time to "manage" the details of the wedding: arrange for the locale, minister, decorations. Shop for the dress and the veil. Julia's probably going to need the Edwardian equivalent of a Wedding Planner. If Ruby were available, a cool idea would be to have a big wedding for Ruby, which would enable the legit procuring of the church and other arrangements, and then smuggle in William and Julia's wedding, too. Throwing in a couple of interesting rings. I like this one, but with a larger amethyst...? This one looks a bit like a class ring, but if you look closely it has an Art Deco design. Change the middle stone to a colored one, and I think it might work. I personally favor the brass/copper look myself, but I thought this was a neat idea. Sort of a gilded age "skyscraper" ring.

I love the Art Deco ring but it's too modern for the time. My biggest problem with the flower ring is that it is so impractical for Julia's work. I don't even want to think about all the yukky stuff that could get caught in that. I have 2 of my great-grandmothers' wedding bands. Both are very simple and only one has a small diamond set into the band. With Julia's engagement ring being so elaborate, it only makes sense that she would have a simple wedding ring. I am hoping William will wear a ring but not holding my breath.

At this point with all the ring-finger-hiding pictures, I'm hoping they are wearing rings at all. >.< You're right about elaborate rings creating professional problems, though. What about the curly one? Actually the engagement ring is already a done deal - I don't know why I'm trying to go back in time and wishing it were a different one, lol. Maybe I'm just setting placemarkers for my own ring some day.

The curly ring has the same problem. My best friend is in the medical field and I always wondered why she never wore her engagement ring, only her plain gold wedding band, until she pointed out the hygiene issues associated with rings with any type of a setting. Even a channel setting gets stuff caught in it.
Nothing wrong with narrowing down the field of what you like for future reference!

Perhaps she could get a fancy one and wear it on a chain around her neck? My friend "eclair", who has a medical background, immediately asked why no one was wearing gloves in the morgue.

Funny you should say that...for Christmas last year her hubby gave her another, more elaborate, band that she wears with the original one. Can you image how relieved the medical profession was when rubber could finally be manufactured to suit their needs while still being economical?

Can you image how relieved the medical profession was when rubber could finally be manufactured to suit their needs while still being economical? Maybe it was for an anniversary with a special stone? And her husband was feeling that the first one was chintzy? The Wikipedia article doesn't make it clear when medical gloves became a regular thing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_gloveThere was an early episode where Julia talked about attraction being related to smell, and I couldn't stop thinking about how strongly she would smell of chemicals, and how that must turn William on, hahahaha.

Naw...her original engagement ring is a gorgeous diamond solitare but the setting is 1/8 inch high! She asked for another, more work appropriate ring. She still wears the solitaire about once every 5 years or so, lol. I hadn't considered Julia's chemical 'perfume' before...hahahaha!

I hadn't considered Julia's chemical 'perfume' before...hahahaha! Someone I knew (online) once told me about coming home from her grad school lab with that particular "eau de lab" every night: I can't remember what the chemical was, but I'm almost sure it's something that Julia would have used for sterilization, and evidently it's really hard to get rid of the scent for the evening. Sometimes I wonder if that's why Julia became a psychiatrist: so she could sashay around wafting clouds of jasmine and lavendar on the theory William might actually propose this time!
