Because of Blue's defense they are now continuing their idiotic tirade! I'm not getting involved again! She's not worth it! I wish I could block her but I can't since she doesn't follow me anymore! >.<

Well if that's the case then the writers really don't have ANY excuses for not going down that road besides simply not thinking of it....or being told by the producers that they couldn't. But this is Canada and even in 1900 I think we could have been representing a bit. I think they felt pressured to marry off William and Julia and were trying to replace them with a new "shipper cause". But George/Emily fails on that count for many reasons, starting with the fact that despite having an ensemble class, the show has a central protagonist, William Murdoch. So the OTP is going to be William Murdoch's. Sorry Thinking Ahead Guys, no substitutions. I agree, MM could have been representing a bit and was kind of dense in missing the opportunity. Especially since the couple of "token" episodes show no outright prejudiced position is involved. Were they afraid of ratings implications? Two words: Joss Whedon.

Unless Tess or Ruby comes back into the picture he's definitely going to end up with Emily out of convenience. Apparently there was a whole line of George/Henry speculation I missed after the Kingston Train episode.

I used to thing Millennials were so much more hip and open minded than my generation. Maybe there was some sort of slingshot effect.

Did that have anything to do with me? I can't remember and if it's not because of me I don't care. *slaps self* Sorry about that!

But this is Canada and even in 1900 I think we could have been representing a bit. While looking up the history of actual prosecutions of sapphism (the "physical act" would be called tribadism), I came across this famous defamation trial in 1918: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maud_Allan#Libel_suitSapphism could be medicalized as "sexual insanity", circling back to everyone's favorite catch-all explanation female hysteria. Regarding prosecutions - these did seem to focus on women getting nekkid and otherwise flaunting deviant sexuality in public, in ways I think would make me uncomfortable if I saw it going on in the street. Things like cross-dressing and pretending to be men and women living together went on all the time. Regarding the cognitive dissonance about whether women's same sex sexuality was the same thing as male sodomy, you might be interested in the story of a nun who claimed to be possessed by an Archangel, and then went to bestow "his love" on other nuns: amzn.com/0195042255

XD Apparently you get blamed for pulling the trigger on all crack fanfic pairings. O.o While I can see Henry as gay, can't see Henry/George. Apparently George does so much "gay" stuff that he actively repels that categorization for me. I want to see him settle down with a nice girl that will bake pies for him.

Zombie girl? I don't believe I'm familiar with that girl. Yeah everything is usually my fault. Apparently. Lol that is a pretty long list isn't it? xD He mends clothing, has an eye for fashion, great at wrapping presents and picking out hats for ladies and uses bath soaps. It's all his aunts fault, right? They didn't 'make' him manly like Brackenreid did with his boys. Definitely not Emily...not unless it's a festering wound of a pie with worms crawling out of rotten apple slices. And then she apparently also didn't bake it.

That sounds just like my cup of insanity! Must read!

Must add that George invented "metrosexuality" to the Historical Gotchas list. But still, no matter how I squint, can't see him as gay. Henry, on the other hand... Henry, the lawyer? So gay. Also, I think George would break up with Emily the minute she stank up his apartment with her cigars.

WTF? That sounds just like my cup of insanity! Must read! I read it in grad school. The appendix includes unfiltered translations of her testimony, and it's explicit. (Well, male clericals wrote it down of course, and it's been translated into English). But it as "History on crack" goes, this just about breaks the pipe.

I was going to come to the Emily section and start a thread on this very subject when I discovered that very thread was already here, and I was the one who started it - and it's been sitting at the top of the Emily Grace section since June! Evidently this is all we had to say on the subject...? Anyway, if anyone comes across some sapphist-suggestive scenes, please point them out to me so I can hunt down the screencaps so I can make a poster or two?

I thought she had some chemistry with the earth digger lady...and their dialogue could be somewhat construed as innuendo...I put it in the pervitude vid I did a few months ago.

I thought of that, but that was a verbal exchange - I don't think there was anything that could make a good picture...? Yeah I dunno...she talked about her 'woman's group' thing in the first episode or two of S5 but that storyline apparently got dropped until this season...I don't think there were any suggestive looks in the ax murderer one either...but I don't generally pay as much attention to what Emily is saying and doing compared to everyone else. I've noticed she rolls her eyes a lot though.
