Murdoch Takes Manhattan is selling me on the notion of "thrill-seeker Emily", who is too easily bored for George. I think that is one of the reasons she was attracted to Leslie Garland. He kinda had that 'bad boy' air about him, he was new, and exciting, and took risks. While George was always rather -for lack of better word-sedate, (when it came to his relationship with Emily that is) Yes, I think Emily is attracted to Bad Boys if she's attracted to men at all. But the reason Murdoch Takes Manhattan was one of her best character episodes was all the character play she got to do around the car - not just driving it, but expressing the wish to own/drive one against the Inspector's opinion of women driver's, trying to wheedle the price out the Inspector, just grabbing the wheel when no one was looking - all this said a lot about her character. I like it!!!

It was like the writers themselves didn't like her even though she had been brought in to replace(?) Julia. But I bet they like her now! That Emily in Murdoch Takes Manhattan was a lot of fun!

The odd thing with Emily is that we still know so little about her so it's only her actions that we have to go by....we don't know why she does what she does. If there ever was a mystery on this show...it's Emily. We were introduced to all the other characters in the first few episodes so we've learned their back stories over time and usually through their conversation with another character. But so far, Emily has had little or no such conversations with the other characters. She is still very much a blank slate. Murdoch Takes Manhattan is selling me on the notion of "thrill-seeker Emily", who is too easily bored for George. She's probably easily bored with anyone. Remember that song "Looking for love in all the wrong places"? Yet I really warmed up to her during last week's episode!

Maybe she needs a flying umbrella so she can find herself a good chimney sweep!

Last week's Emily is the Emily I've long thought she was in my head, but admittedly, one that I haven't always seen on screen except for brief flashes. More of this Emily, please.

But it could get old like Bloody Hell. It's a shame it actually took the writers FOUR SEASONS to create some good hooks into Emily's character.

I don't know what they have up their collective sleeve but there does seem to be a bit of character development going on for her and hopefully it continues.

Found out someone around here has been up to no good and writing a fic about which team Emily is on... I've been very pleased at the Emily/Lillian Moss idea. I need a little more show material before it's really parked in my imagination, though. The "warrior princess" reference helped a lot. I like FallenBelle's concept of "bi-curious". It's not like Emily would have a lot of models, references, or templates lying around for such a relationship. There would be Sappho, some tittering gossip in the sorority, some scandals in the newspaper - that's it. Emily has been all about exploring the boundaries and challenging society's preconceptions, though. I think she is "curious" enough to see what Lillian has to offer her.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she,s to lovely to bat for the other side. Old George hasn,t had much luck. Ever since episode 1 when he met the animal rights lady, (mind you, he did get a free dog out of her!!) we all wished he would find romance. And i hope it works out for them. Dr Grace is lovely.

I don't want to do much to spoil Season 8 for you, since you haven't gotten there yet, but George does meet the the "animal rights lady" again - that's Edna.

After she was such a capital B the other ep, I'm kinda regretting writing it. Though I guess to some extent she was a bad influence in the fic too. Lilian is gonna be gone by the end of the season so there has to be something wrong with her...I don't think it'll get all melodramatic like my fic. Not when that would require actually giving them screen time.

They need to find someone for Emily that is already one of the regulars, preferably not George though, maybe ... Henry!! I think it would be fun to play around with that pairing for a couple of eps at least.

Waa - how do you know Lillian's contract hasn't been renewed? I still think perception of Lillian as a "strident feminest biatch" is a result of writer's error. At least I hope that's the case.
