William talked about condoms in the Green Muse, so he has obviously used them. He is not a virgin. Him and Julia have clearly been lovers. He may have slept with Anna, but I don't think they did sleep together. I'm rewatching MM right now and I've very recently seen Anna's last appearance and I don't think they had sex. Also, William wasn't in love with her. He cared deeply for her, but it didn't go further than that. Uh, just because he knew what they were doesn't mean he's used them before... William isn't the type who would risk getting a woman pregnant. And the idea he's a virgin makes me laugh.

William isn't the type who would risk getting a woman pregnant. And the idea he's a virgin makes me laugh. The idea William is a virgin makes me cry, because he would have wasted his best years, so to speak! While he's responsible enough to avoid a pregnancy situation, he's also smart and "modern" enough to explore creative ways of doing that. While William is Catholic, and his personality shuns being a hypocrite, I do think it was normal for Catholic men to find excuses ways to "get some practice" before marriage. I think William would have "rationalized" it in some way, and he would have just thought of himself as doing the "modern" thing. Basically I think if the lady was willing, William found a way. And I think Julia was very willing. But not in season 5 - that would have been adultery, and a grave sin in William's book.

William talked about condoms in the Green Muse, so he has obviously used them. He is not a virgin. Him and Julia have clearly been lovers. Maybe there is a succession of misunderstandings in The Green Muse episode: - when William said that Mrs KITCHEN didn't allow him to receive "love" visits from women. It was a way for him to avoid being alone with Julia in a private place and therefore he avoided admitting that he was still a virgin because of his beliefs. - William was under the influence of the absinthe and therefore he was losing his self-control and inhibitions. And he became more mischievous. That's why Julia asked him if he had precaution (even if she knew that she was sterile*). She was also under the influence of the absinthe and his desire for her and his impulses of affection made her think that he was not a virgin but she was wrong. (*She learned as a doctor and as a woman who had a very bad experience in her life all what we should know about contraceptives. Using a prophylactic is a way to avoid an unwanted pregancy but also a protection against sexually transmitted diseases or infections (STDI). If Julia thought that William was not a virgin, it would mean that he had sexual relations with other women and as she couldn't be sure they used precautions, she didn't want to take the risk to get a STDI). - what William meant when he said to Julia that he didn't think that he didn't need condoms. Maybe it was for him an implicitly way to say to her that he is a practising Catholic and as such, he didn't intend to a have sexual intercourse with her. - when she asked him if he had precaution, it was for her a way to say to him that she was agreed to go further if he was willing and of course, only if they used a condom. He was then surprised by her open-minded about sharing a intimate moment with him outside of a marriage relationship and in plus at their first date. That's why he said: how very modern of you! - to finish, they both agree to wait for an other chance but the reasons of their decision were not the same and that it was a wise choice for this night. When he said "not tonight", he surely meant once they get married. Indeed the very next he started courting her. Moreover, at the end of the episode, they both admitted to have feelings for each other. And William proposed her to keep dating and she agreed. This evening, they certainly didn't see The Green Muse but they saw into each other's eyes the passion and the love that they felt for each other.

It was a way for him to avoid being alone with Julia in a private place and therefore he avoided admitting that he was still a virgin because of his beliefs. Hahaha, I've never heard this interpretation before! So cute! I suppose it's possible! I can see this chain of miscommunication: especially Julia's concerns about the STDs. William's a handsome guy: since they haven't really been dating yet, she hasn't had the chance to evaluate whether he's exposed himself to dangerous situations. I think this is an excellent explanation of why she would want to "slow down" even though there was no chance of her getting pregnant! Hmm, not so sure on that one: he looked a lot more eager than that to me!

Well to me it sounds like that fangirl from season 5 started up a fan club for the detective and something bad happens to one of the members...or they devise a crime in order to get him to come and solve it and fawn over him.

If you want to know the title of the sixth episode of the next season of MURDOCH MYSTERIES: /photos. For now, it means nothing to me. Poets and Literary figures often had Appreciation Societies. Later this evening I can do some Googling to see who might have been active in 1902. One funny thing came up when I Googled just now. Remember the bad poet that Jasper mocked in Anything You Can Do? He was William Topaz McGonagall. McGonagall has an Appreciation Society! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_McGonagall#Honours_and_memorialsThe title brings to mind a few possibilities: 1) William is feeling unappreciated while investigating an Appreciating Society. 2) William has attracted a fan club of sorts. (Like the cult followers in Sherlock - sort of an ironic representative of "us", or it could be a send up of obsessed fangirls like in Bloodlust). i.e., William gets a little over-appreciated and doesn't know how to cope with it. 3) The title simply refers to a Literary Appreciation Society (perhaps even one of the historic William Murdochs!), but William continues to garner praise as a "Great Detective". This should plant seeds of worry in all our minds that William's pride will goeth before a great fall later on.

I couldn't find an image, but they were in the first clip I found of Ruby Rhod! Keep an eye in the background for the flock of Japanese fangirls. Interesting how, like otaku, this can no longer be defined as "Japanese", hahahaha.

Nope. Not in my wheelhouse. I did watch X Files for the first few seasons but the chain-smoking man conspiracy that consumed later seasons drove me nuts.

Nope. Not in my wheelhouse. I did watch X Files for the first few seasons but the chain-smoking man conspiracy that consumed later seasons drove me nuts. I thought that conspiracy was theoretically cool but the badly executed. In fact the show itself wasn't in the hands of a very experienced/competent creator. On the bright side, it did open the door to a lot creative ideas in TV that came later. There's even a minor influence on Murdoch Mysteries. I don't remember fans "shipping" couples so hard on the Internet before The X-Files. Also there will always be a bit of Mulder/Scully in mystery-solving couples with emotionally-challenged men and strong/intelligent/professional women. Scully was a doctor who originally turned Mulder on with her aptitude for touching outre things, of course. This sort of show is a direct challenge to the Action Hero/Babe show.
