I think there is an episode dealing with mining strikes - this looks like how George might dress to go visit a mining operation...?

Awfully fancy pillowcase he's carrying off to the wilderness-or a mining camp-or on a donkey...

This is one of the ads CBC is showing for the new season. The theme for S8 seems to be about secrets being revealed according to the CBC ads (Secrets will come to light, Everyone’s got something to hide, etc.). I can’t wait. I bet William has one or two of his own to let out and that will be an earth-shaking one indeed. It’s about time he dropped a shoe.

Last Season's Promo about "The Final Mystery Being Oneself" had nothing to do with the actual content of the season. I would love it if secrets are revealed - the angstier the better! But it's possible the promo has nothing whatsoever to do with what's coming up in the episodes. Perhaps the marketing team team just thought the catchphrase sounded cool. I had a far-out theory about William actually having a neurological problem that aided his puzzle-solving skills. The panel mentioned the book about William's background was called "Shipwreck". Maybe he was in a shipwreck and hit his head. There was also reference to some sort of mentor. Has anyone read this book? Anyway, this could be a secret. In the fanfic section we speculated on some "logging camp" secrets that could have led William to join the constabulary. Perhaps there was a murder, and he worked out the truth of it, but he wasn't able to see justice done. He might have been an indirect accessory to the cover up, and he continues to feel guilty about it (fueling his obsession with upholding the law). The Woman in Black could be the wife of the victim in that scenario.

Don’t think this will be a theory they will implement though. I haven’t read “Shipwreck” but there is a brief summary of what it is about here abclifeliteracy.ca/goodreads/shipwreck . It sounds interesting.

Such as William fathered a child with his favorite logging camp prostitute and she had an abortion-and he didn't learn of it until after the fact? Or, he almost killed (or maybe actually did) someone in a drunken brawl?

Or, he almost killed (or maybe actually did) someone in a drunken brawl? Oooh that first one could reinforce how he feels about abortions without the cliche of someone running up with a long lost son. I'm not sure if William could ever atone as a Detective if he had killed someone. I think he would have ended up as a priest in that in that scenario!

Okay, if not either one of those, then something juicy and salacious! William's just a little too clean, and he needs a shocking skeleton in his closet.

Autism spectrum disorders mean that a person is more likely to have more trouble with certain tasks/concepts, but not that they can't be overcome. But, the show would probably just call it character development.

Autism spectrum disorders mean that a person is more likely to have more trouble with certain tasks/concepts, but not that they can't be overcome. But, the show would probably just call it character development. Is Asperger's considered significantly "curable"? You could say William was held off the marriage market by Asperger's until his mid-30s (Liza aside). But then there's also the curious fact that William seems to have enjoyed a late recovery. (Julia has miraculous healing powers!) I would say Yannick played Aspergers in Season 1, and perhaps with a lighter touch in Season 2. The Season 4 autism episode Dead End Street indicated William at least had leanings in that direction. But in Season 5 he's "coming out of his shell", and in the seasons after that he's both holding up his end of communications with Julia and really asserting himself on the job as well. So are the writers now arguing in hindsight he was just a "shy nerd" before? Because I think Yannick was playing it a bit more extreme than that.
