As for the tie straightening scene-OMG YASSSSSSS! Yeah! LOL when I saw that, my husband probably wondered what I was so amused at. William manning up with the tie straightening, absolutely classic. Might replace the horse riding "I am the law" pic on my imaginary cell phone.

Perhaps he was compromising, but at the end of the day, he's a simple priest who's trying to do what's best for a good and faithful member of his flock. He's no calculating archbishop maneuvering politically with an HRE. CC says the show has admitted a mistake re: the Magic Homburg, but I'm still going to say that it was all for you, baby! The priest seemed to really care about William. If he were the gay one, I'd be saying hahahaha - gay crush! Anyway I do think he's stepping a little out of the Rules on this one, and even if that fits what he believes, if this is his regular practice, it could get him in trouble down the line. He reminds me of one of those pastoral care priests of the 60s, though! I wonder if the Priest gave Julia a book that wasn't the Bible. Surely she's read the Bible. What else could he have given her that emphasized the "divine love" aspect of religious belief. Waaaa - did the show really say the Magic Homburg was a mistake! How could they!? The Magic Homburg is real! *clings to the Magic Homburg belief system* Well, we don't know that he isn't gay! You can always cling to that. The priest def reminds me of a pastoral care priest or at the least a reformer. Whatever-it's been dealt with, and we can move on now. The last thing I want is an entire ep devoted to doctrinal theory. I think CC says she saw it on Twitter, but I could be wrong.

she came at the priest as if she felt religious belief might be psychologically harming William. I totally disagree with that. William's faith is as much a part of him as his curiosity. She loves and understands the curious man but is baffled by the strength of his faith, most likely because she feels just fine without any strong sense of her own, if any. Julia explained her reasons for going before the fact when she told Emily "William would never say as much but I know that getting married in the Catholic Church would mean a great deal to him". She went to see if it was even possible and if so, what would she have to promise to get it. She even asked if it were possible to "give him that gift". I agree that another scene with Julia and the priest would have been very enlightening. All we know so far is she was asked to think about "why a belief in God is important". Obviously the priest was reasonably happy with her answer. He also knows how deeply William loves Julia so he found a way to allow a valued member of his flock to have his faith and his love. From the priest's POV it was probably reassuring to see Julia wanting to embrace that part of William.

But William has been in whorehouses before. This was the "best" whorehouse in town - presumably an equivalent to The Music Academy, and William had no problems there. I'd be curious to see how "nervous" William was in the movie version where he met Ettie. In any case, I'm persuaded he only became nervous when he was directly propositioned. Maybe this is because part of his mind is considering it. Maybe it's hard to be such a proper gentleman, and he's been holding out for a loooooooooong time. He doesn't want to be put in a position where his resole might crumble. I totally agree with your theory of building a home as a symbol of providing. When William met Ettie in "Except the Dying" she was a street-walker of a very low caliber, so no whorehouse then. I agree that Wm is fine around such women when he's in detective mode. It's when a proposition gets under his skin that he squirms. He was so cute bumping into that table! No fears here that his resolve is in any danger of crumbling unless and until Julia gets ahold of that tie ! I'm still cracking up at nervousasavirgininawhorehouse!William and Brax laughing at him. Right now, that's my fave scene from the show! I reserve the right to change my mind, however.

Live in his room? No, no, no, no. This may be the issue they argue about. Besides it will take him about fifty years to build a house on his own. What were they thinking? I doubt living in the boarding house was an argument because I doubt William and Julia ever talked about it. This was all William living in his head - a weird fantasy where he could still live in Mama's House and have his wife there, too. And also build her a house with his own hands. This must have been one elaborate fantasy, but it collapsed once William started uttering it out loud.

Agreed about the venue-but I'm suspecting that Julia couldn't get William to discuss or commit on a venue (such as talking to his priest) so she had to take it upon herself to select the venue and therefore an ASAP date. You know, because honeymoon, and tie removal. I think living in Julia's house while he builds them a house is an excellent compromise. Julia's going to have to talk to him about this seeing as he's being obtuse about it. He can't figure it out on his own. The question is why can't Julia get William to talk about these things. What do they talk about when they go out on a date? They do date. When George offered to take William to dinner (that sounds kind of kinky now that I type it), William said he had a date with Julia. Do they talk about the weather the whole time? I'm sure this means they haven't talked about where they are going on their honeymoon, either. Don't you have to book serious travel at least a few days in advance? I think at the very minimum, she's dropping hints that he's obtuse to. They probably spend the rest of their time geeking out over some scholarly article or book. George was trying to nail down a date for the Victorian lap dance bachelor party. I thought it was sweet-you perv! I think quickie wedding is how you get a honeymoon in NYC. It's not that far.

Wasn't there something said this past summer about multiple wedding scenarios? I'm guessing a few nightmare scenarios before the big day actually happens. That's why I'm hoping that's William's nightmare of what could go wrong, and the real dress (which they shouldn't spoil, IMO) is still yet to be seen. Also, her hair. Please do something about her hair. OMG her hair!! I thought this has to be a nightmare, surely Julia would not want to be seen dead with that hairstyle. It was epically bad.

When the conversation seems to be taking a turn to things he doesn't want to discuss, he probably pulls out a fascinating old case out of his magic hat and distracts her.

That's just it-he has been in houses of ill-repute before, so for him to be nervous just because he's there conducting official police business makes no sense. But, he never has been directly propositioned before, and he freaked out? Because he's a virgin? I think the show is trying to play it both ways ultimately, and we'll never know. First we have swaggering!William for the first two eps who knows a thing or two about the world, and then we get nervous!William being a bambi in the ways of women. The show is certainly trying to have it both ways. But fans need to be able to put together a consistent story one way or the other. I think this can be made consistent if we throw the impending marriage in the mix. William might be genuinely tempted by women and "self-flagellating" by holding himself back for Julia. Now his principles are being challenged right before the wedding! Nerve-wracking!

Please do something about her hair. If you look at the background it doesn't appear to be the altar in the same church so I'm going with DEFINITELY a nightmare scenario. The dress and her hair alone make it one. I've decided not to get my squee on that the real wedding will absolutely take place in the next ep until I see it actually happen. I'll channel that and dress for that but I'm definitely going to wait and see. Once it happens tho, I'm a gonner !!!

In GD he's not solving a murder and then he gets propositioned by a pretty, very forward, prostitute days(?) before the wedding that he's been saving himself for. His resolve must be sorely tested. That's how I see it. And William has been holding out so long he needs to have this Wedding yesterday.

Perhaps William spoke to him when Julia left and then got married, he did say that "William was at peace in a way he'd never known him to be" and he's only been happy since he had Julia back. He did seem to give her a 'little black book' I was wondering if I'd misinterpreted that or if it was meant for her to read.

I agree. However, I'm sure he's seen Julia propositioned and put men in their place many times, he's not aware of it any more even when his manhood has been called into question. William totally lacks self-consciousness about needing to defend his "macho". That in itself makes him a real man. A gentle-----man. As Bat Masterson would say.
