My favourite part of this episode is Julia's growth in her willingness to embrace and gain some understanding of William's religious beliefs. I practically melted when she said, "I want to marry all of you". Awwww. It's about time! William has done so much of the sacrificing in this relationship. It was a bit of a giggle seeing her squirm at the beginning when she was looking at all the hellfire and damnation depicted in the stained-glass windows. I really liked how the dialogue between Julia and the priest took place over several days. IMO, the priest was a very forward thinker in asking only that Julia think about "why is a belief in God important?" He wasn't trying to convert her to Catholicism, just to have her gain some insight into why William thinks it is (and maybe help her own beliefs at the same time). I also liked that she wasn't afraid to express her frustration with God to him. I agree that this was handled very well indeed. WTF indeed about living at Mrs. Kitchen's? ? Julia owns a house for crying out loud! William wasn't wearing blinkers...he had on a bloody blindfold! Clearly no discussion between them. Does anyone else feel a decided lack of enthusiasm for getting this wedding planned? My feeling is they both very much want to BE married, it's the GETTING married that stymies them. Julia's lack of planning feels a lot like deja vu. I'm choosing to believe that she needed to get the church thing settled first. Admittedly that was a really big bit of planning. There are several points of discontinuity that are irking me but I'll save that till everyone has seen it. Loved, loved, loved embarrassed William. I too would have liked him to at least run a finger to loosen his collar a bit. SOMEONE has to write that fic! I know! I totally squeed when she told him that she wanted to marry all of him! ZOMG! Awwwwww! That was important development there for character. Although to me, it underscored that William was still dragging his feet to an extent-maybe he was still trying to save up for their house? He wasn't actively trying to set a date or plan a wedding-that was Julia. I know she'd probably do most of it anyway, but you would have thought that she'd asked his opinion on dates, venues, etc. WTF was he thinking? Methinks Julia's had to take this bull by the horns. What did he think was going to happen once he got engaged? It's like that that's all he thought about, and just stopped thinking there once he accomplished that goal. Silly boy! Embarrassed!William is the best-that scene screams for fic. I'm waiting to see if Snacky picks up on it, but there's a single scene that screams virginity-just when I had convinced myself that he wasn't, I may be revising my opinion. At least I don't have to write stripper fic now-I did some research and while I was neve going to write about a girl on a pole, I did find that they had burlesque dancers and that there had already been at least one noteworthy BP with a belly dancer.

So jungle!William was conspicuously absent when Masterson was putting the moves on his lady. I can't decide if Brax was goading him into action, or to hurry up and ask Julia if Mrs. B could help plan the wedding. Probably both but Brax had a quiet dinner uppermost in his mind, lol. Jungle!William knows his lady can handle herself....he finds it very sexy. H e also knows there's a kick-ass corset and boots under that navy suit.Perhaps he did just want to watch her take him down, but I still think he was kinda clueless there. Julia can totally take care of herself, but William has got to be more aware of these things.

I bet Julia will only be upset that she wasn't there to see it-she was quite taken with the dancing girl in MiRT. She'd probably laugh hysterically if she saw his reaction to the drink and girl. There's another scene that hints at virginity-I'll let you discover it on your own and see if you come to the same conclusion. Julia may not be thrilled that she's agreed to raise her children Catholic, but she's admitted that it's a very big deal to her husband to be, and this is a compromise/sacrifice she's going to make for him. Again, her sacrifices are quiet(if you could call this one). She can still talk to them and explain her beliefs as well. Then, the kids can make their own decisions. I'm remembering now that when I wrote their wedding fic like 2 years ago, William took her to his church for an interview knowing full well things wouldn't go well...Julia blew up in the priests face when she had to agree to not only raise the kids Catholic, but never ever undermine his faith...anyway, she eventually calmed down and agreed to raise them Catholic as long as they would have the choice in their beliefs later on in life when they could make such decisions for themselves. But they didn't get married in the Catholic church because she made such a bad impression on the priest. So yeah...my point was, I liked how they handled it in this ep more than my own story. But we're also talking S5 Julia here. And yes, those are the sorts of scenes that used to have me firmly in the virgin camp. Now I find it kinda fun to think it could be either way. Right now, I think my logging camp idea had no merit and that I'll be abandoning it. But that reaction! There's a colorful expression I'd love to say that fits perfectly, but I can't, because that would spoil it! I want to see if Snacky catches it.

Ah, just cuz the show has him one way doesn't mean he couldn't be another way...in an alternate timeline. You can do whatever you want in fics, that's the beauty (and curse) of them.

The church stuff was handled very well...though I was a little confused as to what she actually compromised on. I mean, she must have to some extent, no matter how forward thinking the priest was. The discontinuity...you mean like the whole food thing? Or how Brax didn't break out his autograph book and fanboy to the extent he usually does? Or the magic homburg? (but I found that funny). Yeah embarrassed William was so adorably awkward and endearing. I think Fallenbelle is on that... OMG the discontinuity! Mrs. Kitchen's terrible cooking has become both well-established canon and fanon and now William totally loves her stew so much he wants Julia to move in there. Oh, honey....that scene made me cringe and LOL at the same time. You are sooooo stupid it's cute. I think Brax totally fanboyed, but yeah, where was the autograph book? Maybe he doesn't care anymore since he's been through "the change"? But why would he fanboy then? WTH with the hat? It's shown clearly flying through the air and in the next scene it's magically reattached itself to his head? Perhaps it was continuity, or perhaps it was fanservice for Snacky. I did get my tietwiddle last week, so maybe.... Wait, I have to write that fic? But what are you going to write?

Good point there. He's already defended her against someone slimier, so yeah, perhaps a bit too repetitive! I can't believe I forgot to mention Brax' wedding gift of a gun-it's a subtle way of saying "Hey! You've got to be more careful now. You've got responsibilities" to William. Yes, he can still use his wits, but if that doesn't work, he needs something to even the score, especially if he's working with ultra-baddies. On a related note, I finally saw a preview. Is that really the dress Julia's going to wear? I hope that was just a nightmare scenario. :/ EDIT: Link to preview: youtu.be/mgSh2j0nUSwI can't hear the gunshot-but the audio isn't that great... Plus, it looks like our favorite blue dress has made a comeback. I was hoping they'd burned it. She had better outfits in season 5-why not recycle those?

The simplest being that she has learned to cook well in the past 6 years since we last saw her. Then it's Murdo has lost his sense of taste from her terrible cooking. Then it's Murdo being frugal and wanting free catering for his wedding so he's pretending it's good. And the whole moving in thing, I think it's like Snacky said. He's come to look at her like a mother figure, it's been 15+ years since he moved in and now he has a hard time saying goodbye. Exactly. You can't have one and not the other. If his near death experience changed his perspective on what is important in life, then it would be either all or none imo. Several comments on twitter. They know they made a mistake there. I just found it funny. Clearly it was an issue of continuity. They would've used a stunt guy for the fall...and just had Yannick on the ground after the fact. Yes, you absolutely have to. You have no choice in the matter. Whereas, I probably won't write anything because I am the senior God here, so I don't hafta. So there.

I didn't think about that at all, but you're probably right! After all Brax probably carries a gun around with him at all times now too. The question is, does it work at all if Bat sold George the same 'legendary' one or are they cheap knock offs that are more for show than anything else? I'd hate for him to be in a position where he had to use it only to find out he's screwed. :/ I'll have to a take a closer look later. I was still laughing from the ending so I didn't notice her dress being terrible...but it wouldn't surprise me considering what she wore for her first one.

BP fic, or the aftermath. Or perhaps you could write one and I'll write the other. You pick.

Why would he sell them crappy guns-plus, I'd think Canadian or not, they can tell if a gun is crap. They're lawmen- surely they'd know...me on the other hand, I may be from Texas, but I've only fired a BB gun once in my life when I was like 7 or 8 and that's it. I would never be able to tell the difference. And in case you missed my addition to the earlier post-our fave blue dress is back. Joy.

ROFLMAO about Julia being upset to see William blushing! I think you're right on that. I've got some sources now, so I can watch the ep, and I'll be watching for some Virginity Theory evidence. I think the Catholic Children might be a "discussion" with William (I bet he's never thought about it) - but he may be willing to compromise, too. He knows the children are also Julia's. And as you say, the kids can make their own decisions!

I wanted something kinda scandalous-not the red dress mind you-but something with a bit more panache!

It sounds like William trusts Julia around other flirtatious men! Though this reminds me of the H.G. Wells visit in Future Imperfect where William literally leaves Julia in the hands of the Enemy, lol. He was obtuse in Future Imperfect! One of the reasons he lost her-he threw her to the enemy in that scene. Not deliberately, but still. That would have made me question things in my relationship as well. This episode just reinforced his obtuseness on some things, though. I'm still trying to figure out the beef stew thing. As people pointed out on Twitter, William hated Mrs. Kitchen's cooking in Convalescence, and the fact that she's a bad cook is also a prominent feature in the book. Maureen Jennings advises for the show, and they take great care with consistency. Did you notice the return of the stuttering banker, and the Inspector's painting in the background? So I have to believe that the MM writing team was deliberately trolling the audience by claiming that William loves Mrs. Kitchen's cooking now. Either he has grown to love it over the years (doubtful since he had already been at the boarding house for some years some time during Convalescence), or Mrs. Kitchen took cooking lessons at some point and hit upon the fact William loves beef stew, or William constructed this fantasy world for himself that Mrs. Kitchen is a great cook in order to defend the notion of bringing Julia home to "Mama" because he has nested there and he can't imagine moving out. By the way I didn't see any strong proof of the Virgin Theory - just some discomfort with "women of the night". William was comfortable with Ettie before, so he might have in mind what Julia will think of him. Ps. Also regarding "building a house" - could William's fantasy life be getting the best him? We just weren't in on those fantasies.

Everything is tenuously arranged with the church...until the bat masterson and the butch cassidy gang shoot up! After that William and Julia are no longer welcome. They go off to cry under a weeping a willow. I predict Julia will discover drunk!William's tie is missing at the end of the evening and go ballistic. Please write this fic. After watching, this fic is actually starting to materialize. I want to see William drunkenly confess his whole fantasy about building a house, to explain why he's been blowing off the issue of where they are going to live. It's kind of getting down to the wire for them to even rent a place by now, isn't it? From the promo: hope it isn't bad luck to see the groom before the wedding!
