hmm, when I watch the episode again, I'm going to have to do it with William/Brackenreid in mind. But offhand...I'm not really seeing it. Oh wait: Edison Jr. is ruining Edison Sr.'s good name. Julia may ruin William's name, which will ruin Brackenreid's name, which will ultimately make a laughingstock of all the men in Toronto. Maybe that's it. But in the end Edison Jr. will change his name. What's the message there? Just the fact that Edison Jr. did change his name so once again MM rings true.

Then we'd be straying too far into the serial formula that Peter Mitchell spoke about. No cancer-that was a death sentence back then. I just looked it up and cancer of the uterus actually has a 90% cure rate just through hysterectomy. No chance to have children after that, though... Apparently the use of radiation to treat cancer started very early in the 20th century, as well, but I can As for the episode, over the course of 14 pages, pretty much anything I had to say about it has been said!
I am worried, yet also fascinated by William's lack of real concern over what the Inspector told him and by Julia's worries regarding her running for office. He seems to feel he's 'Teflon Man' now. Oh, a slap on the wrist, a talking to, some warnings, been there done that, no worries. He's right, he's always managed to come back. But not being able to control your wife? That's what men did in those days and to not do so would be troublesome for him. Even Julia "gets it", now. William worries me right now. He's oblivious. He is happy, he's married, life is good. I'm waiting for the other shoe. Yes, there will be angst for him I fear. He's just too complacent, something is going to knock him off his little pedestal. Julia's a bit of a concern so far but possibly it's because she's final happy and a woman in love and newly married so she's feeling sweet and feminine. That's probably not going to last too long either I'll give them the engagement/honeymoon phase but expect real life will start to catch up with them after the Christmas break in January.
I don't want to see a baby for them in this show at all. Sorry but this show is just not that. But as an end of the season thing a pregnant Julia in peril could be quite dramatic. Ectopic pregnancy for example, if Julia was not conscious and a decision on what to do is left to William to decide on how to proceed then he, being Roman Catholic would have to go by church decree. In 1902, a new directive came down on the question - it was a tough call.

Random note of interest: someone in the Murdoch household enjoys painting. There was an easel with some sort of painting on it near the breakfast table!

My Greek Tragedy theory is really getting a workout these days. But I think that's because it's fundamentally true. If William is floating around on Cloud 9 for too long, something has got to happen to knock him off. Just realized we haven't seen George on a mule yet (the mining episode?). Wow, they were really far along in filming when that pic came out...

This would still be a soap opera-ish focus on "the personal" while Julia really needs to get back into a hardcore science/lab setting. It occurs to me one angst plot could be Julia thinks she is pregnant but it turns out to be a benign tumor. I would say cancer, but were there any treatments yet? Then we'd be straying too far into the serial formula that Peter Mitchell spoke about. No cancer-that was a death sentence back then. Agreeing with fallenbelle here. Anyway Susannah was already killed of by cancer, it would be rather redundant to do it again, especially to a main character.

She had (has) an easel in her office too I believe. We haven't seen her at work in so long it would be easy to forget! It may have been a fashionable way to display artwork in those days.

Wow, they were really far along in filming when that pic came out... I don't know that it's going to be a Greek tragedy-that denotes something fairly epic. I don't know that he thinks he's "Teflon Man" either. He's worked hard over the years and deserves to look back at his accomplishments with pride at a job well done, and think that his "reputation stands for something." If TPTB fire him for his wife's exploits, then they're flaming idiots. But, will there be a fly in the ointment? Probably.

Maybe exploring what's going on in the unconscious mind that way? I totally forgot about that painting? Maybe William likes to have her recreate that scene...

More interested in the false pregnancy than the cancer (for angst purposes).

(And I could swear his costuming is making him a little more taller and robust). There have been past episodes where Brackenreid threatened his job, and he was having to steel himself for that outcome. Haha, well he is married to a wealthy woman. So while we're worrying over his "identity", maybe the flip side is he can be more confident because he knows he won't starve in the streets if he does get fired. He has a much better "fall back" position now.

I once read somewhere that Reda deliberately tailored Brax' suits to be a bit snug to demonstrate that he was a well-fed middle aged happily married man-or something to that effect-Thomas Craig is not actually that portly. That's why I think the "Tommy Two-Cakes" nickname referred to the fact he ate two cakes at teatime. I wonder if he is now doing something similar for William's suits-to denote that he is now well fed and happy.

YB: Aaaaaaaah, I can finally eat all the steak burritos I want! lol - I think Reda may be doing that again. That's one of the things I like about MM - super sneaky little symbolic details like that. It might be in the coloring of William's suits, too. I believe he is wearing a lighter color suit this year? Anyway, is this just my illusion or does William have a slightly different look - like a settled "salary man"? And how are they doing it?
