Well George had the chops to be promoted a few seasons ago: the bigger question has always been why in the world did he allow himself to be held back as a constable for sooooo long! But of course he would need to be hired elsewhere to make Detective. But I predict "circumstances" will swiftly bring him back home where he belongs. William's hospitalization would be a convenient way to do that. (Though it boggles me what would keep William in the hospital after he recovered from multiple broken bones at his old boarding house...). Once William recovers, I foresee sone Departmental restructuring of the type we expected at the start of the season. 10% darker - are we there yet?

Man, if Jonny's off the show it's basically over. So, I'm gonna go with your prediction thing...either something like that, or George simply doesn't like working with the SH3 lads enough to stay. I can't picture an entire season without him, or only occasionally making an appearance... Though, someone said something about him having a new show coming out on tumblr...

Only saw it once so these are first impressions: I laughed a lot! Particularly hilarious: the dual screen shots of the Crabtree wrestling match ( I never watch pro wrestling but I assume that is a trick they use), and the argument between the Inspector and his wife on the phone, I loved Julia and Emily making up over shots of whisky.
Still the same complaint as Barbarama: no Jilliam at all! I guess we can't expect any at all for the rest of this season! I did like the mystery, particularly how the manager kept foiling their best attempts to entrap him. Usually people are not that defiant once confronted with evidence, or usually the good detective catches on sooner. It was his defiance that kept their suspicion on him rather than his lackey.

Yes he does have a new show coming out but I hardly think Jonny would be foolish enough to jump ship now. His show has not even aired yet. I am interested in seeing how this will play out. The happiest outcome for us would be that he ends up as some sort of Assistant Detective or some such thing ( I know there probably was no such thing in real life). I cannot imagine the show without him regularly answering to "What have you George?"

ok here are my thoughts for this tonight's episode: The story was fun but the mystery plot was a bit weak in my opinion, I didn't scratch my head guessing. I like the relationship between George & Edna, they seem happy and in love as we can see onscreen (it is not left to our imagination in comparison to another couple x( ….), I also like the relationship between George & Simon they appear to get along quite well. However regarding George's promotion…wait WHAT?!! Even if this is great that his detective's skills are finally recognized he can't leave Station 4, he just can't!!! Other than that this episode has the same pattern that I've seen earlier this season (men on one side with the case and women on the other with the suffragettes) so it won't be on my top list. I really don't know what to expect for the last 2 episodes of the season but the sad part is that I'm only settling for contentment instead of being excited….I'm still hanging on the small hope to be proven wrong. Apparently only the hip new couples are allowed to make out on screen. The real reason Julia was happy to be rid of the cast was so obviously sex related. Yeah William's glad he doesn't have to write her 'correspondence' anymore. Yeah okay, Julia. *wink wink* Either that blows over by the end of season due to whatever reason, or Jonny's off the show. Someone said something about him having another show? But I don't see anything on IMDB. Yeah the mystery was pretty lame. Though Murdoch catching the baddies like that at the end was cool. Reminded me a bit of that hockey episode with 'the razor' guy. What I was most disappointed about was no one punched that annoying owner guy in the face and there was NO Lemily stuff at all! I guess they have to show something more for that before seasons end...unless Lillian is coming on as a new main character and replacing George??!

And the other thing that bugged me about this ep is that Hamilton didn't protest the 'pro' wrestling coming to Toronto! There would have been so much funny there! I guess they only have so much time in an ep...

And also, what does CBC mean by George leading his FIRST murder investigation? There's been several throughout the series, not to mention when Murdoch was in the Yukon...did they just say this to make it seem like him solving this 'first' case was the reason he was only NOW being promoted??

Unless what they meant by this is that George took the lead and William stood back. In the past George has only taken on a case when William wasn't there. On another note, this was the first time I agreed with Lillian! Still don't like her though....

It hurt to agree with Lillian, but she turned out to be right in the end......I thought it was really cute when the 3 were having their sherry or wine and Jean Hamilton came in......Julia downed hers, Emily and Lillian discreetly hid their glasses........It was also cute when William crossed himself as George entered the ring.....
Cheers

Yes, losing George would be worse than losing Brackenreid. I can't see it happening.

Though, someone said something about him having a new show coming out on tumblr... I thought the new show is an off-season local guide show. Like Yannick doing Napkin Man on the side.

same complaint as Barbarama: no Jilliam at all! I guess we can't expect any at all for the rest of this season! WTF? Even with Helene available, they still can't manage any Jilliam? Someone needs to drop a clue bomb on the writers that "romance in marriage" means this needs to happen in every episode. Not as a separate "fan service" scene, but well-integrated in the mystery story so it doesn't seem like something "extra". This should happen even when Helene isn't in the episode, re, William can refer to a letter, a picture, a memory, etc. Otherwise, they aren't married.

I cannot imagine the show without him regularly answering to "What have you George?" William is also lacking a promotion. So I can see William getting a promotion, and then George taking the regular Detective slot. Is "Assistant Inspector" a thing?

Yeah, what is it with the every couple BUT William and Julia being allowed to get it on onscreen? No wonder Julia is knocking back the liquor. lol at the thought of Lillian replacing George. At the start of the season I did think the Lillian character was going to be more of an adventuress - a sort of cross between Nellie Bly and Lara Croft. That one could have at least interfered in some of the mystery solving. (Hey, remember Vash on Star Trek: The Next Generation? That character.) But anyway, we got Lillian, and I think at most she will be Nellie Bly, and definitely not Lara Croft.
