I think it's pretty obvious Julia's going to call William some variation of the Great Detective in bed. However, it's harder to get a lock on what William might call Julia (besides "Mrs. Murdoch"). She's definitely not a honey, sweetie, darling, babycakes, love muffin, sugar pie, pumpkin, my heart, snicker doodle, sexy mama, princess, beloved, pickles, boo boo, or cutie patootie. William is not the pompous type to start calling Julia goddess names: "My Aphrodite", etc. Euro-classy pet names like cherie, mi amor, bellissima, carina, tesora, dolce, corazon, etc. Makes Jilliam sound like The Addams Family. Too bad this isn't Star Trek - "Imzadi" was always a great, exotic sounding name that automatically raised the temperature in the room the minute it was uttered. Found this web page on French "Love Nicknames": www.frenchtoday.com/blog/les-petits-noms-damour-french-love-nicknames"Mon Ange" is on there - I guess some variation on "angel" is not bad. I didn't even think of that, and I was just replying to a thread (which I started) on "Julia as Angel" a few minutes ago. Can anyone see William calling Julia his "angel" or some variation of this? Hmm. Well, moving on. CC likes to call Julia a "minx" in her humorous captioned pieces. I can see William going for that or something like "coquette" because it suggests youthful naughtiness - it's a little bit vampy. A "minx" is something the "Great Detective" might be hunting for. I think Julia might like it. A while back we speculated that William and Julia might keep their marriage alive by bookmarking certain racy passages in Burton's Arabian Nights, the Kama Sutra, Dracula, etc. So here are some names that mean "beloved" in various oriental languages: ArabicAshiqa "Passionate lover" Aziza "Cherished; Beloved" Habiba "Beloved " Kalila "Dearly loved, darling, sweetheart" Sababa "Excessive love" Egyptian Femi "Love" Habibah "Loved" Ife "Love" Ojufemi "Beloved of the gods" FarsiNazneen "Exquisitely beautiful; charming. A name used for a beloved woman" Persian Delara "Beloved" Delbar "Keeper of the heart, lover, heart-ravisher" Delnavaz "Caresser of the heart" Delruba Ravishing of the heart Friyana "Beloved" Meherafraz "Exalted by love" Meherafruz "Kindled by love" Meherangiz "One who created love" Meherbanu "Lady of love" Nazanin "Sweetheart" Shahnaz "The king's favorite, the king's beloved" SanskritKama "Love" (should probably be compounded with something). Source: hasani.net.phtemp.com/love.html That is quite a list...have you ever thought of running a library? You know about so many subjects and if you don't know then you've got the skills to research the bejeezus out of anything. I believe our very straightforward William will only go as far as Mrs. Murdoch in terms of love language. It makes sense to me especially since they have waited so long to be married.

Librarian was on my list of "going back to school" possibilities - but it sort of went by the wayside because I didn't want to get an online degree (otherwise I'd have to move) and the job prospects were very poor, particularly for people who fit the traditional "librarian" profile (me). Oh well. But yeah, I am the "librarian" type in oh so many ways. You don't think William will get a little more lovey dovey as time goes on...?

William has never used any type of pet name for Julia, they're not in his vocabulary. I don't think Julia's ever used a pet name for William either. I seem to remember in one of the episodes Darcy called Julia darling and William gave him a look. I don't think he's comfortable with pet names, he's probably never been been called, or used one, in his life.

I don't think he's comfortable with pet names, he's probably never been been called, or used one, in his life. IMHO that might be an argument in favor of the Virgin Theory since they were still being all Victorian and Proper. OMG, I have to find that scene where Darcy calls Julia "darling"! I want to see William shoot darts of fire in Darcy's general direction! Since then William has learned to be a little more romantic though. I do have trouble picturing him using a pet name - in fact "pet" name is probably the wrong way to put it since I'm sure he wants to maintain his respect for Julia at all times. "Pet" sounds patronizing. If he did use a "love name" (a code word!), it would not indicate possession or Julia's submission to him in any way (*pretends "Mrs. Murdoch" doesn't do that*). But I think he would want to be romantic and indicate Julia is special and that he loves her. William has gotten better at issuing those little pronouncements over the years! Anyway, if Darcy got to call Julia a "love name", it seems like William would want that privilege, too. Nom, nom, nom, my scrumptious little cupcake...
Just kidding.

It was in Downstairs, Upstairs but I don't have a cap. William would not want to have any reminders that someone else had that privilege. I agree with Talbotrail. Using nicknames is not part of his persona.

I still think William is on a mission to be More Romantic and make a few Grand Gestures. Along the way he might pick up some love name...though "Mrs. Murdoch" will certain do at first!
