Ooh - Milady - I remember that! hmm, that works with William's style since it's so formal. I'm not sure "beloved" does, though. I can't see "beloved" off-hand, but I don't remember being thrown by it in any of your fics either, so it might depend on the context/flow. I chose beloved because of it's biblical context. To me, it's super proper yet intimate, and if he would use one (not entirely convinced he would), I think it would be that-or something like it. Beloved sounds so Victorian and proper...yet, I can't shake the Stargate reference.

William has never used any type of pet name for Julia, they're not in his vocabulary. I don't think Julia's ever used a pet name for William either. I seem to remember in one of the episodes Darcy called Julia darling and William gave him a look. I don't think he's comfortable with pet names, he's probably never been been called, or used one, in his life. There was a fic where Darcy kept calling her darling and I thought that was so weird but then I watched some of those eps and he calls her that more than once. That was an excellent signal he was all wrong for her. Very possessive.

My vote is Dr. Sexy. OMG, that's a good one hahaha. Maybe tweak it to make it more period. Was "sexy" a common term of the period?

I don't think that word existed until the 1930's...or sometime after Marilyn Monroe became a movie star. (I dunno though, I'm just making shit up right now).

Weren't they McDreamy and McSteamy on Grey's? I still think Mr and Mrs is uber-sexy for W/J because they have waited SO long to be those titles for each other. There's an adorkable intimacy about it that suits them IMO.

IMHO that might be an argument in favor of the Virgin Theory since they were still being all Victorian and Proper. OMG, I have to find that scene where Darcy calls Julia "darling"! I want to see William shoot darts of fire in Darcy's general direction! Since then William has learned to be a little more romantic though. I do have trouble picturing him using a pet name - in fact "pet" name is probably the wrong way to put it since I'm sure he wants to maintain his respect for Julia at all times. "Pet" sounds patronizing. If he did use a "love name" (a code word!), it would not indicate possession or Julia's submission to him in any way (*pretends "Mrs. Murdoch" doesn't do that*). But I think he would want to be romantic and indicate Julia is special and that he loves her. William has gotten better at issuing those little pronouncements over the years! Anyway, if Darcy got to call Julia a "love name", it seems like William would want that privilege, too. Nom, nom, nom, my scrumptious little cupcake...
Just kidding.
He calls her "milady" in season 7, and I've used beloved in a few fics, but I can't see them using anything else. Or I can't see William using anything else-Julia might get pretty cheeky though. "Beloved" evokes the Songs of Solomon. They quoted it to each other in Let Us Ask the Maiden. Sounds formal, but I think the idea has merit.

My problem though is it's a cumbersome word for something so strongly felt, IMO.

It's also how Thurston Howell III referred to his wife. I'm cracking up thinking of W William using that voice!
