Anyone who attends needs to come back and give me a play-by-play. I'm really excited to hear how it goes for everyone! Also, learn all the secrets. Then tell me those secrets.Secrets/Spoilers: Let's just say that the season 9 preview made a point to show lots of Jilliam. Kissing, tie play, pushing up against alley walls. I hope they release it again soon, because with all of the noise, I didn't catch a lot of the dialogue. But William kissing her goodbye (he really didn't want to go-they were on their way to a cartography exhibit featuring mercator projection, (which he was very excited about-such nerds), William picking apart the inaccuracies in George Melies "A Trip to the Moon" while Julia tried to calm him by reminding him it was just a movie, etc. There were also scenes from the prison with George, and Terrence Meyers gets William's attention in a way he can't refuse. You've already seen the dominoes in the suite (which I didn't catch but Hodge said are in her pictures), the family pic of George, Edna, and Simon on George's desk, and I mentioned above the preview with lots of Jilliam. Notably absent: The Asylum set and Julia's office-which were there last year according to other folks. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, and I'll try to add to this as it comes to me. Further confirmation that Julia stops being a psychiatrist and goes back to being the coroner. And it's probably a season long (possibly into S10) move. It does also seem to confirm that Emily is only in S9 briefly at the beginning. Yay, Helene wasn't lying when she said we'd get more W/J moments in S9.

If I can say this without sounding like nothing can please me, because I totally want Julia back in a scientific analysis role mystery solving role, I do think it's a shame that Julia will miss the storyline opportunity of advocating for asylum reform. Maybe she can still do that from outside the institutional setting, though.

I'm not really sorry to see her change careers again. As for reforms, there's only so much she could do. She's a woman and that limits her influence.

I'd really rather not get into that, I'm not interested in seeing the advocacy, she can talk about it if she wants to but not much. I'm much more interested in the mysteries and want Julia involved again. I'll happily forget she was ever at the asylum - other than her psychiatric experience is one more way to help William.

I imagine him really hating nearly everything in it I didn't catch all of the dialogue, but he was definitely worked up about the inaccuracies, and Julia kept trying to remind him it was just a movie, and it was even based on his favorite boyhood book (Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon -nice season 2 continuity) and he explains that he knows better now.

There are others who do that, it wouldn't be historically accurate if she became a major reformer, and while it may have been nice, there's only so much they can do without it being a major distraction again from what's best for the show. This is better, IMO.

Here's my two cents worth about the whole shebang:
The BEST part was having Fallenbelle here!!!
The next best part was the studio tour IMO. The level of detail in each set is absolutely stunning. The morgue is an incredible place. (I shook Shelley's hand. ) Walking the outside streets gave me far more insight with my identification of locations. I had a pretty good handle on what was shot on the backlot but the set department are absolute masters of disguise. We got to ride in the Pendrick Bullet!! Craig was kept busy holding it because it is very tippy. Seeing the preview reel made me very happy. Fallenbelle has done a good job describing its content. Julia's office at the asylum was notably absent. Once I get the photobucket account figured out I'll post my pics too...I have a great one of Maureen Jennings in the Pendrick Bullet holding a sign that says "Free Crabtree", lol!
The panel discussion at the MME on Sunday was very interesting. We heard from Paul Aitken, my fav MM writer, the man who does all the music and how that process works, the lead set decorator talked about how she sources all the little details that make the show look so good, a hairstylist did up Pendrick Arrow (from FB) with Emily's hairdo and we got to hear from Edna and Terrence Myers. It truly makes you appreciate the vast array of skills required to bring this amazing show together on a relatively small budget.

Raising the issue is one thing, but having Julia become a crusader is quite another.

I suspect the Pendrick Bullet may have become a bit too tippy, because I don't think it was there late in the afternoon when I did the tour.......
The backlot is an amazing place......while I was waiting to meet Peter Keleghan, I noticed what looks like dark red, weathered brick is plastic cladding......the level of detail both inside and out is fantastic......I had a great day.....
