What a blast tonight! I was with about 60 fans at The Derby, a pub just south of what is still "the Junction" in Toronto. The best part...Tom and Arwen were both there, then afterwards the actress who played Carrie Nation showed up. Lots of hooting, clapping and general carrying on during the commercials but you could hear a pin drop when the show was on!
So much to laugh about...Brackenreid on a bike, John drunk, morgue humour, Carrie Nation at the Brackenreid's....
We noticed the fire hydrant right away. They existed in Toronto in 1903 but that was a modern one.
I am still not clear whodunnit. A very convoluted plot to be sure! I need to watch it again before making any more comments.
Didn't it end up being one of the original brawlers? The antidote discussion got a little confusing at the end, but I think that was the outcome. Yes, it was one of the brawlers......I have to confess, when he said he did it to avenge his dog, I thought to myself, "Ah, that makes sense."

Enjoyed this episode. Probably going to be repeating what everyone's already said, will go back and back read when I've got time and am not so tired.
Anyway; didn't see the motive coming, interesting how it was hinted at earlier in the episode, by the wife. FORSHADOWING!
Also enjoyed drunk John Brackenreid & Murdoch's lines in when he was interrogating the wife, I can't remember them exactly but along the lines of "my wife has yet to murder me.." Anyhow I'll rewatch when I've got a bit more of a brain and I'll make note of them.
Will probably add addtional comments when I've got a bit more of a brain.

Surely, you couldn't just wander around welding an axe. Nice to have Julia's morgue humour back and W/J were as cute as always. Almost every character has now been in Station 4 jail cells. Carrie Nation did. Did anybody else laugh at her axe holster? Good point...I think Backenreid, Henry and Worsley are the only ones who haven't.

I laughed every time I saw her: she was so over the top (but apparently true to life!) The weapon mentioned kept reminding me of my university aged daughter, who last week, texted me a picture of herself... throwing an axe at a target! I guess this is a trend now. She loved it! It must be a good way to vent frustration.

The axe holder was priceless........as was Brackenreid's reaction to her, and to his son getting drunk, and to Margaret.....his way of reacting to his son was a lot more effective than screaming at him and condemning him to Hell.......

Okay, I be confused. When William was referring to his terrible experience getting drunk, did he mean The Green Muse? William asking for Spruce Beer at the end of the ep was a real let down. I was hoping to actually see Julia lure William into getting sloshed... lol at Dry Canada/Canada Dry... I only vaguely remembered the name Carrie Nation from history books long ago - I had no idea she was an ax wielding badass! I've got to look her up. The march of the temperance ladies ending up with an invasion of a bar looks familiar. I believe that was lifted from an episode of Hec Ramsey: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hec_Ramsey

I have to admit that other than that, I didn't get a "second viewing worthy" vibe from this ep. I'm going to go back and watch the Doomsday ep again instead, lol. I keep wondering what would happen if someone walked around with an axe around here. The US is hypersensitive to any potential weapons of mass killing these days. An axe-wielding murderer certainly counts, despite all the Internet jokes ("If we meet, I promise I'm not an axe-wielding murderer"...etc.). Still, global culture is getting increasingly boring: a woman's axe holster certainly changes things up a bit!

My mind flashed on Dead End Street. Dead End Street is classic MM in my mind, so that instant comparison didn't bode well for this ep. I have to rate it "okay".

Which I doubt that was the first... I hope not anyways.

The mystery itself wasn't bad. But I don't see why we needed Miss Nation in this episode. Apart from rallying the temperance folks and being the house-guest from hell, she didn't really do much. If she'd been more-implicated in the plot, then it might've been better. As it was, I don't see what she brought to the episode. Totally agree with this. The murder should have been with an axe.

and William getting talked into a drink. Which turns into several and a recreation of their absinthe fueled night at the park so long ago. That needed to happen back in the hotel room...

I hope he wasn't referring to TGM as I don't think that experience was terrible ... unless being told not without a prophylactic was the worst thing that's happened to him.
