However, harkening back to my high school years, I did date a couple guys who seemed mostly interested in showing off that they had "make out rights" over me to their parents. Frankly this made me feel used and gave me the creeps, and that was usually our last date. I wonder if this was a subconscious class thing for William - needing to show off he could reel in a high class lady...? I can easily imagine that carriage ride happening... It was nothing nefarious, demonstrating ownership, or anything like that-just some private messenger chats I've had on ff.net with a few people about how William's propriety is actually a cover for his perviness. If you think of it, William seems to delight in public encounters and probably enjoys the thrill of possibly being caught. Julia enjoys shocking people. This is what happens when those two kinks collide. Nothing more profound intended than that. I think you're right about Julia, lol. Ostentious PDA probably made me uncomfortable because I'm a very different personality. It's interesting how I totally blocked out that aspect of William, though, even though making out in parks and walking barefoot along fountains are pretty risque for the 19th-century and William's ostensible level of propriety: I guess we tend to highlight the characteristics we like best?

This is a plot hole for me as well. How did the killer know that the barkeep would pull out the particular bottle with water? It would have been more interesting/believable if they were working together, each with their own motive. I think the bottle with water was a natural because it was the only partial. A Bartender will empty the open before using the next one. If the killer had simply made sure the bottle with water was the only open then the bartender would have used it. Good point - but still a very risky plan considering that a lot of coordination already had to happen to deliver the poison.

Great fanfic. I can see this happening though I can also imagine additional dialogue at the bar that could have gotten very interesting. You have a perfect read on the characters in my opinion and I am so glad William ordered something different than Spruce Beer. The best part is Julia probably knew she was whispering *William's* carriage fantasy in his ear...

Maybe like many criminals there was failure to see the potential failure in their plan.

Totally didn't just quote Rebecca James from this episode in one of my classes....
(I'm taking an Organized Crime class, and this week we covered Prohibition!)
