No inconsistency here. If you were Irish protestant you were fine. Note CC Stockton was Irish, obviously protestant as he's the one that wouldn't promote William. You would understand the history of that really well if you come from the U.K., but that seems like an unnecessary complication of matters for the purpose of a TV show. Stereotypes aren't always bad things - they also serve as a sort of shorthand so the writers don't have to fill in a lot of history and back story. This just makes it harder (for non-Europeans at least) to make a mental map of who all the abstract team players are. And I say that as a fan of period shows teaching people something about actual history. Toronto was an 'Orange' town, meaning Orange Lodge, which were Irish protestants and followers of the Crown. You really can't have Toronto w/o the Irish protestants because of this. Now we don't see them often as it's mainly the conflict between Irish Catholics and Catholics in general that we see but they have to be there or it just doesn't make sense. I could never really understand why non Irish protestants (or the Irish actually) were so invested in the Orange Lodge and Battle of the Boyne. Guess I wasn't religious enough to care.

I thought the Orangists were named after William of Orange!? I always figured the Orangists were the British in Ireland. I guess the multiple Irish players make more sense, but it's still confusing to people who barely have any knowledge of history of their own countries - much less the complexities of Ireland! Better to stick to one country, one "nationalism" issue, even if it's a massive over-simplification.

Yes, William of Orange was the monarch at the time of the Battle of the Boyne when the British ruled Ireland, hence the Orange Lodge. It really doesn't make any sense that they still rub in salt over a battle that took place in the 1600's. As far as I'm concerned it's confusing to anyone that isn't Irish. I agree with Higgins sentiment on this.

Another ep a day. 1. It's nice to see Julia care so much about the women. We know of her work but we don't often get to see her work directly with the patients without something else, like a murder, going on. Oh and at the end they were really trying to visualize the distance that was growing between Julia & Darcy seating them at opposite sides of the table like that. 2. We never saw William drink the beer. I doubt he actually likes it 3. William definitely really cared for Anna. It would have been nice if she had been around longer. She should have found William when she first came back to Toronto. He was in really good spirits with her around. The sex was probably helping.4. "How do they read the signals?" LOL GEORGE!! I love George in this episode too much. It's great when he gets startled by William while he's reading and he is reciting along with it when Emily is reading it. 5. The first time I watched this, they got me HOOK LINE AND SINKER. From William yelling for help to William attacking that Black Hand guy. I fell for it. I don't know why I ever did, it's MM, I should have known better. & Waaaa Julia was so heart broken seeing them together even though she knew Anna was leaving. I suppose she thought William had completely let her go...

I admit to being quite fond of this two parter. One because I thought Yannick had more chemistry with the actress playing Anna than almost any other guest star, and much of the time with Helene. And seeing Darcy and Julia sitting across from each other at that huge table, lol, just announced 'beginning of the end' for them. The other reason I enjoy this episode is the baseball game. I'm not quite sure I buy William suddenly being so buddy buddy and flinging his arms around everyone LOL, but he seemed so NORMAL in a guy and sports kind of way (and I admit it - I like seeing him in his cute uniform). I liked the game for a change of pace for the show. And George and his scenes with those naughty stories just crack me up every single time

The gem of season 5 for me.

As for the beer, William ordered spruce beer, which is vile stuff.....like drinking the water left from the Christmas tree... Really? I was hoping it was something like ginger ale. I usually celebrate the new season of MM by collecting pertinent foods, and I hadn't tried that one yet. Is it taste like beer? I don't like the taste of beer at all.
