She's the perfect foil for the great Inspector. And you haven't seen the last of her. I think the Diva needed to be overdone to be a Diva. Also loved that she was black and talent trumped the racism of the era.

Awesome! She's definitely one of those characters that can't be in it enough. And in retrospect, the diva was actually artfully overdone...much like the acting in "Curse of the Lost Pharaohs."

"artfully overdone" - I wish I could claim to be thus. Sort of like how we should all be French in Monsieur Murdoch, lol.

It appears we got an angelic, virginal Julia for the wedding, LOL! All her sins washed clean by her heavy veil and very modest dress. Gone was the harlot woman in red at the NYE ball.

That dress was way too heavy for an angel. If she tried to fly, she'd fall right back down to earth and probably be flattened by her own dress! I think your burqa comparison was closer to the point. This does not make sense in view of Julia's modern personality or character development. Perhaps Alex Reda's theory was that she was "doing it for William"? She was already fulfilling William's fantasy of marrying in a Church, so why not fulfill the Virgin Bride fantasy while she was at it? But was William really fantasizing about The-Bride-Wore-a-Burqa? LOL!!! I think his tastes would have run closer along the lines of "angelic vision", which would have been a lot lighter, and more suitable to Julia's "willowy" frame.

I thought the same thing with that close up of her head with the light filtering behind it. Honestly the only thing I could think of as "Oh the irony...."

Some Veil Fetishism It seems like Julia's dress got a little shorter to enable the horse-riding, waltzing, and threshold-carrying later, doesn't it? Here she's wading through an ocean of material, and it's not just the veil. Perhaps dress had a detachable train just like the glove? I still suspect there is an effort to make Julia more "curvy" this season to subtly suggest sexiness and perhaps even fertility. Since Helene is pretty slender, this can only be done with a lot of clothes.

Yes, I think the train lost some of it's length, as when she's at the train station she's holding the skirt up-but she's not holding up *that* much skirt, and it doesn't appear to puddle around her as much at the station as well.

Maybe the bottom part of the gown detached with a zipper! just in case the bride needed to elope on a white horseWilliam: How very clever!

Alex Reda went over the making of the dress and the train is detachable. Ooh, I watched that, but I didn't catch that part or perhaps I understood it differently. But how is it attached? It would take a long time to unhook a lot of hooks. Could it be...a zipper?
