I love how Murdoch dismisses George's idea of a Venusians death-ray when he literally fought a death ray less than a year ago! Silly Murdoch! William will regret his limited vision when George's stock dividends start rolling in. Actually, I don't understand why William can't make room for Venusians, or Martians, or Molemen in the Bible. Ancient Astronaut theorists make their careers off of pointing out the Biblical "evidence". William seems to be going with Papal Authority instead of the Bible here, which is odd for a broad-minded scientist. Also, Papal Infallibility was a very recent assertion. I wonder what he would say to the idea of Canadia-ian death-rays? >

Murdoch just needs to learn to not be so quick to judge...like his insistence that Coca-cola stocks would be worthless

Anna’s been absent for years and no one remembers her let alone actively ships her. I was referring to their time in Buffalo... It didn’t seem to affect Julia and Darcy. Jilliam have taken years I don't think anyone has forgotten Anna. I personally really like Anna, and I don't think William was disloyal on either occasion of that "Jilliam detour". I don't actively ship her because I'm committed to Jilliam, and I know that Anna's a marked woman in Toronto. WillAnna is Not to Be. I think I see what you mean about Buffalo: Darcy's swift proposal means he was less repressed. I don't think that's the case at all. Darcy was of the right class for Julia, and Julia was looking for a proposal. William on the other hand was of a lower class and spent too much time dithering over whether he should be dating Julia in the first place. Then, because he's Catholic, he had to dither over the whole abortion thing. Then, in season 3, he just dithered too long and got what he deserved for it. He should have take the overt "Art of Husbandry" hint in Future Imperfect.

Having read this thread, I now want to write William/other fic. If he can't have Julia, well,... Angsty smut ahoy! I haven't been involved in a fandom for years-I don't know what's come over me.

Heehee, I felt the same way. The last fandom I was crazy-involved in was Stargate, years ago. In some other threads, I've developed some theories about elements necessary for cult TV shows. I'm developing a theory that shows with an element of surrealism are easy to obsess over than totally realistic shows. MM is realistic, but the period setting and some light symbolism give it enough of that surreal element.

I was in Stargate fandom as well, shipping Sam & Jack, and I firmly believe they got together at the end of Threads. But, my fellow fandom friends loved angsty S/J and that's why I probably have a similar taste to do something similar with W/J. I'm not sure I'm buying virgin!William, and if he can't have Julia, well... That same sexual repression in Stargate between S/J is probably why I'm attracted to W/J, and I quite like your theory about the surrealism. But much like Stargate, I suspect that I'd get "killed" if I wrote William/other fic. I'll try to think of W/J, but my muse loves angst. What can I say?

Haha, I don't buy Virgin!William either, but there are some people who argue that this would be appropriate to the time period, especially for a Catholic. My little pieces of fanart are just a jokes about the idea. My own view is they've been getting it on since after The Murdoch Identity: nothing like a near death experience to make things seem urgent. I think you should be able to write any fic you like and variety is the spice of a fandom. However, I should warn you that my dissent from the Emily/George doctrine (I hold that Emily is a sapphist) caused Great Offense, and CosmicCalvalcade lost some followers on Tumblr for posting one of my images with the "sapphist" comment on it. Sometimes the lack of tolerance astounds me. Ps. I shipped Jack/Daniel. XD

But, there's also a part of me that thinks they haven't-given what was appropriate for the time period and leads to sexual repression or angst! Which leads to William not having a physical relationship with Julia, but relieving that frustration with another while pining... But only occasionally-he is a good Catholic boy after all-but he's not perfect. William/smutty book fic perhaps? I'm tempted to do Dracula, but that means I'd have to read it again, and I'm not sure I'm that tempted.
