I've noticed that on two or three occasions. In The Murdoch Sting I think he's puffing himself up to impress Cassie Chadwick, can't remember the other occasions off the top of my head but I thought on another he was trying to impress too. Of course it's probably just a writing error. Murdoch was listed in the credits as Inspector for the first THREE seasons! Then someone finally noticed this rather glaringly obvious mistake. I get the impression that maybe in the UK, the designations are somewhat different. So perhaps this mistake was due to a collaboration error on Alibi's part. I noticed that in the first season but didn't look at the credits in the next seasons. I know in France it's inspector but not sure in Britain, I thought in Midsomer Murders Tom Barnaby was a Detective Inspector but could be wrong, it's been some time since I've seen it. |

Actually I'm a bit wrong...they fixed the mistake in Curse of Beaton Manor...so it wasn't all of S3. Even if it is different, you'd think someone else (who's actually seen an episode) would have taken a second look at the credits before giving the green light. But I guess this second set of eyes doesn't exist because in S4 after Harper was on, every episode after that (for the rest of S4) had the same credits as Confederate Treasure! |

Bollocks = Knackers = Balls = Testicles.
Mucker = someone who shovels out stables (horse mucker). Not sure how that turned into 'friend' though.
Sodding = from 'Sodomite'.
Bugalugs = Simpleton, basically.

I remember "Let the dog see the rabbit" but can't remember when. One was in 'Murdoch Ahoy,' when he steps in to try to close the door to the flooding compartment. The other was later in Season 7, but arrrrgh, I can't remember which one right now! Ahh, there we go - finally found the other one. 'Friday the 13th, 1901,' when he starts participating in the curling practice. |

Not that I'm aware of. Bugalugs is basically just a slang-term. Actually, the expression is buggerlugs, and while the meaning has morphed into a sort of fool, cretin, its original meaning is quite crude. The "lugs" refer to ears, as something to hang on to......I'll let everyone fill in the rest.......

According to my own casual research, Bugalugs is a term of general affection, with a slight hint of condescension, as an adult would use towards a child, or an older person to a younger one. The term is believed to have come from an expression meaning something like "big-eared," referring to the larger ear-to-face ratio of children. "Me old mocher" would be more of a palsy term among peers, like "Old buddy." |
