I'm not pinnin' nuffin! I'll just send you the info. LOL, well I will make the basic map, but in the future folks may want to add stuff, like to the wiki. Ok, it makes sense to keep it up as a work in progress. That's positive thinking for many more seasons but I'm just the researcher not the pinner.

You guys are the geniuses. I just have my resources, lol. I don't know how to use a cellphone. And I don't have a wriggly black pug puppy. Like lovemondays said, with your tech savvy it will take you about 39 seconds to master a smart phone when you find one that suits you. It took me half an hour to figure out how to get the opening theme music as my ringtone today. But I relish these small victories! i don' t have a puppy either.

Snacky, from what you're describing about this novels site it sounds like we'll only be able to pin locations that are actually in Toronto. This is a big problem because 90+% of the location filming we want to include on the tour occurs well outside the city. We need to be able to pin in Cambridge, Brantford, Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener, Port Hope, Tottenham, Oshawa and probably a lot of others. At best we have only a handful of Toronto addresses to work with . Your thoughts?

I would like to clarify what I think is going on here. Correct me if I'm wrong. You want to create a self guided walking tour of places in Toronto that have been featured on MM. Snacky is identifying the locations on a map. There may be more than one tour with separate tours for Brampton and all the other towns they film in. The map will include a pic of the place and a short blurb like "This 1878 Craftsman home was used as Darcy's house." Maybe a little more than that but you get the idea. The pics of the buildings or gardens will be captured from the screen. I take it these maps will be PDF files or something like that. Do you need any more help?

Your assumptions about what we want to do are correct. Snacky has found a tool, novelsonlocation.com, that pins addresses mentioned specifically in novels. We're kind of fudging because Maureen's novels are set entirely in Toronto and the vast majority of location shoots occur well outside the city. How to make that work? We're talking all over southern Ontario. Cities like Brantford, Hamilton and Cambridge are used A LOT! They are each significant tours. The dilemma: how far can we fudge these addresses so that we don't get in trouble with novelsonlocation or possibly even Maureen Jennings? (I just thought of the last part.)

The most frequent problem with using tools and things that might be considered intellectual property is when people charge money for them because that always raises the issue of royalties. If you are not planning on charging anything for the maps, you will have a much better chance of receiving dispensation. It seems to me the first thing to do is read the terms of use for novelsonlocation. It is usually the publisher who retains the copyright on books, but if you don't plan to charge a fee, write Maureen Jennings explaining what you plan to do and ask for her blessing. That's all I can think of now.

That's all I can think of now. There's absolutely no problem with expanding out to these locations if we use "Novels on Location". The only issue is we have to attach every single location to one of Maureen Jenning's BOOKS. And we may have to lie about that hahahaha. But I'm thinking we should use Novels on Location anyway because it works like a wiki: anyone can add a pin and annotate. MrsBrisby can participate all she wants.

I think this might be a very good idea. I promise there is no problem with copyright here - I'll explain how the Novels on Location thing works when I have more time. Maureen Jennings will love having the additional fan activity for her books. It's just like a wiki on a Google map. The issue was whether we could place the TV Show Murdoch Mysteries on a Map System meant for novels. I wrote the developer that made the map to ask if we could do this. He gave us a way to sort of a fudge it: he said just to make sure that we tagged all the Maureen Jennings books "Murdoch Mysteries", so that anyone who searches for "Murdoch Mysteries" will get our larger map, no matter what Jennings books we pin the locations to. The main thing is each location has to be associated with an EXISTING book. We can't make up a fake book - I already tried, lol.

I'm sure Maureen would be delighted to have the extra activity but I think it might be a good idea to get her blessing. I would really like to get a handle on the Novels on Location thing. I just had another round of son-shaking-head-at-mom's-complete-lack-of-computer-knowledge. He was doing the you-poor-thing laugh .

www.brantfordexpositor.ca/2014/06/19/is-murdoch-mysteries-tourism-drawSo given the potential Murdoch Mysteries has for boosting tourism of "historic" Toronto, and even sites specifically related to the show, why don't I see a whiff of this on Toronto's official tourism promotion site? www.seetorontonow.com//Perhaps Murdoch Mystery theme tours would be a bit tacky and overboard, but perhaps more historically themed ones should be the order of the day? Someone is dropping the ball there. Perhaps Toronto Tourism is run by Ovation TV. Any Murdoch Mystery themed tour would be great and none of them could approach the tackiness of a Jack the Ripper Tour in London, which I have gone on and enjoyed immensely.
