We're talking about a copy of the style, not the show itself.
Take "Surrealism" for example. Both Magritte and Dali could exhibit their work under the banner of "Surrealist". They are very different artists. But the manifesto of Surrealism helped explain and popularize their work to the public. What their work had in common was the reference to the dreaming unconscious, etc.

I posted my manifesto on BuzzFeed because I just couldn't find any other good place to post it. I could swear there used to be social media sites you could sign up for where you just posted a random manifesto. Anyway - could someone be good enough to look this over and let me know if there are any typos or grammar problems? www.buzzfeed.com/squeegirl/the-murdoch-mysteries-noir-charmant-style-manifest-twst- there are quite a few changes from the original version since I'm actually writing a manifesto and not talking about writing manifesto.

No problem. Interesting take on the show, not sure I've ever given it that much thought, to me it just feels like a Canadian show.

Does it look like a real art manifesto? Perhaps all Canadian shows have those tendencies. Stargate and The X-Files were both made in Canada. Anyway "hybrid" is just not working, lol.

Not familiar with art manifestos, I don't travel in those circles. I can usually tell if a show is Canadian in the first five minutes. No, hybrid is a car, not MM. Exactly what is a hybrid TV show anyway?

I don't know what a real art manifesto looks like but I do know that you made a lot of solid arguments in favour of giving MM's unique style its own genre label. You are quite right...hybrid is not working at all.

Exactly what is a hybrid TV show anyway? Hybrid is the favorite term of MM's marketers - quirky is slightly better: I've been going with "quirky" and "cult" and "slightly steampunk". But I've felt pegging the style was important for a long time. I know the name I have is pretentious and funny. People are welcome to come up with a better one. I just think MM needs to go with something other than "hybrid" and "quirky" isn't specific enough. I think a name for the style specific to the show would be cool. Perhaps that could be a contest in the facebook group. You could post a link to my manifesto and challenge people to come up with a better name for MM's style.

One of the reasons I was attracted to MM is because it is quirky, but not quirky in the usual way and I think that's because the characters themselves aren't quirky but thoroughly charming. It's definitely turned into a cult show and I think Noir Charmant is as good a description as I've seen.

I think we should peel off the quirky leaves and smoke some!
