One way Brits and Canadians are similar, though, is on public transit.....people will sit and stare at the same page of a newspaper to avoid talking to anyone...... These days anyway. I used to be like that. I worked downtown in my teens and early 20's. The 1/2 hour subway ride had me nose in a book to avoid eye contact or heaven help me having to converse with a stranger. Now I will happily chat with anyone about anything in the oddest places at the oddest times. Older and wiser or just senile??

I disagree that he moved his hand from her thigh quickly in TDWW. However, I will agree that he could have held her differently in The Incurables....but I won't agree that this suggests anger or distance between the actors. I will try your suggestion of watching the body language with the show on mute. Are there one or two episodes you would recommend as showing your point most clearly? I watched The Incurables on mute earlier today and skipped through to all the scenes with Yannick and I thought I saw a distance in ALL the scenes not just the ones with Helene. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, William's demeanor in this ep is off, I can't put my finger on it, he doesn't smile his speech is detached. He seems 'out of sorts'. The only scene with any warmth is where he puts his arm around Julia after the kids and he seemed his usual caring self then. I've watched TDWW again this evening, it preceeded The Incurables but not sure if it was shot at the same time. Yannick shows no trace of the distance that I saw in TI.

Thinking about it now I'm wondering if what I was seeing in TI wasn't distance but more of a stiffness if you get my meaning. He looked uncomfortable, I was interpreting that as distance but maybe it wasn't. Anyway I saw none of it in TDWW.

You didn't think the way he was sitting apart from Julia after he undid the corset was really strange?

There could have been care with Helene's injuries as well as dealing with his own. But Yannick also sometimes has a stagey way of doing things as well. Remember his stagey fall in On the Waterfront? That stagey-ness could be stiffness. But that seems odd for someone so athletic. Doesn't Yannick do yoga and stuff as well as mountain bike?

I think he also has bad knees which won't get any better when he falls down on them as he did in OTW.

Perhaps a legacy of those early martial arts years. They tend to take no prisoners on American knees, irrespective of the sucky American health system.

Cycling won't help that either. I have bad knees and the doctor once told me not to cycle, I didn't for years but I'm back to it now and I do occasionally suffer the consequences.

I remember reading Yannick did martial arts when he was younger and I saw some evidence of it in some of his work. Anyway, I can testify that it can ruin your knees, and Asian senseis/shifus generally have no mercy since Asians are a little more flexible. This required some martial arts training, but he's also done more specific martial arts moves on other shows: I was watching Victoria Cross earlier with eclair, and I always laugh at how William has suddenly mastered some aikido(?) when he flips the big guy in the nurse uniform in the end.
