I would never -really: NEVER!- have known about the symbolism based on the choice of the flowers in this scene without your explanation; I was only focused on the disappointment of George. Although I don't care about the relationship between Emily and George, I find the dicerning parallel very interesting.
Concerning the scene between Julia and William, it was more easy to understand because the writers gave us all the data necessary for that.
This was a smart way/a good process to emphasize/highlight the deep feelings of the characters. Good work!
And yes, I watch series to relax but it doesn't mean that I "turn my brain off". I could go even further and say that it can be a recreational way of learning and improving my general knowledge.
I must admit I didn't know much about Canada.
I hope there's always more to find when scratching the surface of MM. In another post, CosmicCavalcade pointed out how in one episode we learn that from Jasper that liars "look to the left", and then William overtly looks to the left while telling Darcy his relationship with Julia is in the past. WOW! That's story arc consistency as well as great symbolism! I love it!
I bet you know a lot more about Canada now! I think one of the best things about MM is it gives Canada some color and a history - a personality - in the minds of the rest of the world. I'm even now considering making a trip with my Mom, who is very proud of her French-Canadian roots (I think mostly the French part since that's as close as she can get to European, lol).
