This stop action lego Murdoch Mysteries was made by the 10 yr old son of a fan of the show. I love it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVFwYQT-4uk&feature=youtu.be(Ahem, notice what is happening when Murdoch loses his hat.) Even a 10 yr old can see the power of the hat. !!

That is hilarious! The only thing this clever 10 year old left out was one of George's prognostications. Love it, love it!!

The dialogue is priceless and his mom says he made that up as well. Julia and William in the morgue..."mmnnn....mmmnn" while the magic hat goes flying! What a keeper!

You brought up another point that I always have issues with... Why do all the bad guys have the worst aim ever, when they are familiar with shooting and guns in general and the good guys have great aim, even when it's their first time holding a bloody gun?! Because then every hero in the history of entertainment would be dead. *cough* Star Wars *cough* The scene that really annoyed me was the cat and mouse bit with Anna. The presumably highly trained assassin literally took over five seconds to aim at her from like ten feet away when she wasn't even moving!!

All I can think about with that scene is the sound of Anna's heels clomping on the wood floor. As though a trained assassin can't track that. Must suspend disbelief.

Yet another reason why I can't stand that scene. Take off your shoes woman!
I guess maybe this assassin was a newbie that they were testing out on a trivial matter. So maybe that's why he hesitated so much in shooting?

The scene that really annoyed me was the cat and mouse bit with Anna. The presumably highly trained assassin literally took over five seconds to aim at her from like ten feet away when she wasn't even moving!! IMHO, we should view that scene as a form of symbolism/surrealism. If you notice the lighting is also very odd. He is meant to look like a cardboard cutout "villain" or someone posing as a mobster. His death is over-exaggerated, like in a silent film. By doing these things in a symbolic or theatrical way, the producers/directors/writers keep MM from sliding into the gritty "realism" that has been the recent trademark of American television. Personally, I like this style a lot: I' m sure it's deliberate, and I'm wondering if there's any particular guide or model they are using for maintaining this style. One model I've brought up in other posts is "The Prisoner". That one, of course, veers a lot more to the symbolic/surrealistic side than MM. I also think MM kind of fell in that direction: despite historical authenticity, the original low budget made the set model look a little "toy-like". The music is also "toy-like". On top of that, the whole British tradition of TV, as opposed to the American tradition, has more theatrical lighting, which makes it look more "staged" as opposed to "realistic". I think MM finally just decided to go with the flow and embrace what it had: more surrealistic elements than realistic ones. Plus it has a magical homburg!!! Anyway, the way the Black Hand guy died fits right into this, and I love it.

I think you're just incapable of admitting any real fault with this show so you overanalyze the crap out of stupid bits.

Someone emailed a joke to me that reminded me a bit of Willilam, so I've altered it slightly to make it a Murdoch joke. And, I've entered it in this thread because William does not wear the 'magic homburg' when sleeping. Enjoy Murdoch and George had tracked a band of Toronto bank robbers on horseback into the wilds just north of Toronto. When night fell, they set up a tent and both men fell sound asleep.
Some hours later, George wakes Murdoch and says, 'Sir! look towards sky, what do you see?
Murdoch replies, 'Well, George, I see millions of stars.'
'What does that tell you Sir?' asked George.
Murdoch ponders for a minute then says, 'Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter Past three in the morning. Of course, theologically, it tells me that the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you, George?
Sir! someone stole the tent !!!

All I can think about with that scene is the sound of Anna's heels clomping on the wood floor. As though a trained assassin can't track that. Must suspend disbelief. Haha. I heard the noise too and I kept thinking, what the hell….? But I’m sure Anna did not know she was wearing shoes let alone hear the noise they were making. Her heart beating so furiously in her chest would have been enough to drown all that out in an instant. Anyone in her shoes in that situation would feel the same. I agree with Snacky’s analysis here to some extent. Actually, what I saw was a villain who had his prey all to himself, just how he wanted it. He knew they were alone and she had nowhere to go. She was at his mercy and he had the power. It wasn’t enough for him to just go and do his job. He was toying with her and got immense satisfaction seeing her fear and watching her suffer, knowing she was about to die. He could have gone on like that all night if he wanted to. His surprise and confusion when William suddenly appeared in front of him and his prey disappeared resulted in his slow reaction and it cost him dearly. I was glad that he got taken out. Besides, it’s a TV show. The good guys are supposed to win the fight. If the script was for him to kill Anna, he would have succeeded in doing so.

I think you're just incapable of admitting any real fault with this show so you overanalyze the crap out of stupid bits. Hey I can admit fault with the show! I hate it when Yannick lapses into automaton-speak in the first couple of seasons: still not sure what he was going for there. (Data?). I don't even like it in Bloodlust. Also I'm not a fan of anyone's tan in an era that's supposed to be about using hats and parasols to preserve ivory white skin as a class marker. Hmmm. There were too many "Bloody Hell's" in Season 7? I have my nitpicks. But I the things I love about MM vastly, vastly overshadow the things I could nitpick. And it's been a loooooooong time since I found a show I could love. Now this show isn't even an American one, so all I can do is pout and scheme a lot and hope I can help pull it across the border before it times out and gets cancelled. At this time I prefer to be a booster rather than a grumbler! Ps. Regarding the over-analyzing: I just enjoy doing that, and it's hard to avoid once you've seen every episode 5 times.
