I don't know that she felt he was a cad, but her feelings were such that she needed that declaration from him. If there was any doubt that he didn't feel for her what she felt for him-she was out. I think she needed a firm timeline for engagement/marriage from him. She's probably heard "love" before...from cads. And he was waiting for her to signal to him that it was time to propose. He's gotten better at taking the initiative, but not 100%-as noticed last week. He's still waiting for her cue-although she seems to have realized that, and gives those cues now.

Monique's sister was murdered the minute she got off the boat - her body was found on the train. At the hotel was the French con woman and her accomplice. William's inability to read love letters with passion: yep, he has to work on that... The Underground Railway always wants me want to sing the Monorail song from the Simpsons. I'm sure that's an intended association. I wonder if William actually has a few "dark places" fantasies involving carriages at this point. Julia might be able to meet him half way on that one. William is not developing the photos because George is better at it! (Julia might be borrowing the Scrutiny Camera to give William a few "art pictures" for Christmas, though...) Okay so I did miss something thank you! The thing with Monique's sister escaped me at first too!

I think on the first time around he probably had marriage vaguely on his mind some time in the future, but he wasn't even waiting for that cue. He was just taking their relationship for granted while he was busy with detective work. He would have snapped out of it once she gave him the proper jolt, but by then she had already convinced herself that he was going to marry for a big family so she had put her alternative plans in motion.

I would agree with that.

I enjoyed this ep. I found the French Detective rather amusing – “….. you make babies with your wife but you make looooove with your mistress”. William seemed to consider that aaaand ……… hmmmmn, not a bad idea? Haha, William.
Poor Mr. Dalewood. He seemed to be overwhelmed by his lot in this ep. I hope they managed to keep him out of prison for being homo so he can at least try and recover from his near miss from that wife of his. He was next on her list. The woman was such a cold-hearted monster that deserved to go straight to the guillotine and not jail. She will kill again if she ever gets out of prison. But the actress did a great job playing the role. I couldn’t be sure if it was her or her husband behind things until late in the day. Her performance at the morgue, identifying the birthmark and all that, and the way she reacted to her husband, claiming she would know her own sister. She was so convincing, she fooled them all.
William should hang out more with the Frenchie and Pendrick to see what the lads get up to besides working and making money. It will be good for him. He is too shielded living in his head the way he does.

Another ep a day! I quite like this episode. It's always been a standout episode to me!
I read the previous discussions and noticed everyone mentioning William's priest having a crush on him. I like this theory. It gives me a new slash ship now that Francis is gone.
1. Can William speak French more pls. Especially if Guillaume is around!
2. I kind of feel like this is where the sub plots start to go downhill. I generally liked them in the beginning of the series but definitely not so much later in the series. Really I could do without them altogether.
3. William ALMOST ate lunch in this episode. Almost.
4. He was definitely entertaining that mistress idea. I'm sure he'd never act on it but I bet he fantasized about that for some time.
5. What I am wondering is if William would entertain the idea of a threesome now since he seemed quite shocked by Guillaume's! Of everything I can't imagine William doing this is pretty high on the list.

I don't think William would entertain the threesome idea, but I like to think that Guilluame made William feel a lot less guilty about whatever else he may have been up to. Hey, France is a Catholic country, too. Also, I'm sure Julia understands more French than she lets on.

I wouldn't be surprised if she fully understood what they were talking about and was just being coy about it.
